Mark and Sue Walley set up West Coast Fish Ltd in 2012 with the aim of supplying quality local fresh fish to retail and wholesale trade in Cumbria.
Mark has been a full-time fisherman for a decade and has his own boat, a 9.6 metre clinker called Rachel Claire, rigged to trawl for langoustine, fitted with lobster pots and gill nets. West Coast Fish lands seasonal fish that include lobster, langoustine, plaice, skate, cod, sea bass and turbot to name just a few.
Before opening the Fishmongers in Workington, Mark was selling at Fleetwood Market where most of his haul travelled on to Europe.
Mark is passionate about fishing the West Coast of Cumbria and his ambition was to keep more of his catch for people in the county.
The freshest locally caught fish can now be bought from West Coast Fish, our fishmongers on Buddle Street, Clay Flatts, Workington. We are also pleased to be selling our catch to a range of restaurants and pubs.
In September 2012 we took part in Taste Cumbria in Cockermouth, providing fish for all the celebrity chefs including Simon Rogan from L’Enclume, Aldo Zilli and Paul Rankin who said they were ‘very impressed’ with the quality of our fish.
We now operate at local markets in Egremont and Cleator Moor and our vans travel door-to-door along the the West Cumbrian coast.
